Start The Year With An Annual Checkup 26 January 2022 – Posted in: Lifestyle
It is the first month of the year and activities have begun in earnest. The festivities and break is over. People have resumed their jobs, businesses are open, kids have returned back to school, etc.
You know what didn’t go on break at all? In fact, what never goes on break? Our bodies! We’re living and breathing, some better than others but there’s no break. Our organs are doing different things at the same time in varying degrees depending on what activity you’re engaged in at the moment.
So if our bodies never take a break and we don’t have spare bodies stored somewhere, one wonders why we don’t care for our bodies better. Seeing that it’s the only one we’ve got.
Annual medical check-up is a culture that hasn’t seemed to grow on us. This basically means, going to the hospital and have them check everything and run tests to make sure all is right and well with you. This annual checkup enables your doctor to find potential health conditions before they become a problem. Moreso, if you have a family history that predisposes you to a health condition like diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, etc.
Some of the tests your doctor will most likely run on you during your annual medical check-up are:
- Blood pressure
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Infections
- Complete blood count
- Urinalysis
- Cholesterol test (lipid panel)
- Blood sugar level
There are some tests that are given depending on your sex, lifestyle, age, etc. For example, a woman’s annual medical check-up may include pap smear, breast exam, cervical screening. While a man’s annual medical check-up may include, prostate cancer screening, testicular exam, etc.
Remember to give adequate and correct history at the hospital. Leaving out any details might lead to dire consequences. Treat your body right so it serves you well for as long as possible.
Till next time, stay safe and stay out of trouble, my darlings.
